How does the app archiving process work?
Learn how Buildfire handles inactive apps and why apps that remain inactive for long periods are archived.
We archive apps that remain inactive for an extended period of time. This process helps maintain platform performance and ensures unused apps and stored data do not remain in the system indefinitely.
Trial apps become inactive when a trial ends without the app converting to being published to the app stores. Or, when a paid subscription has 4+ weeks of failed payments due to unresolved billing issues.
How to Understand the App Archiving Process
- Understand how trial apps move toward archiving:
- When a trial ends without the app being converted and published to the app stores, the app’s control panel is locked
- Should the user not publish their app before the trial ends, but would like to continue working on their app, they can contact support to set up a subscription. They will regain access to their app, control panel, and in progress work.
- When a trial ends without the app being converted and published to the app stores, the app’s control panel is locked
-
- The un-published trial app remains stored in our system for six months
2. Understand how failed paid subscriptions move toward archiving:
-
- When a paid subscription fails, the system begins a billing recovery period
-
- After 14 days of failed or missed payment, access to the Control Panel is locked
- 30 days after missed payment, the app is marked as inactive
- The inactive paid app remains stored in our system for six months
-
- If a trial or failed paid app remains inactive for 6 months, it enters the archiving process
-
- During archiving, analytics data associated with the app is removed
-
- Plugin data stored within the app is deleted
-
- Uploaded files and stored assets connected to the app are removed
-
- Additional system data related to the app is cleared as part of Buildfire’s data retention and cleanup policies
Please note: Once an app enters the archiving process, data may be permanently deleted and recovery is not guaranteed. Customers are responsible for keeping their subscription active or resolving billing issues to prevent data loss.
4. Prevent your app from being archived:-
- Convert your trial to a paid subscription before the inactivity period is reached
-
- Resolve failed payments as soon as possible
-
- Reactivate your subscription before the archiving process begins
Pro Tips
- Archiving permanently removes stored data related to the app and this data cannot be recovered once the process is complete.
- If you plan to continue using your app, contact our support team - support@buildfire.com, to activate a subscription, resolve a billing issue or explore our account hibernation options.
